Sky lanterns are made of a thin paper shell of around 30cm wide, which has an opening at the bottom that supports either the wire or fibreglass construction which holds the flame. When lit, the flame heats the air inside the lantern causing it to rise. Typically used for festivals or parties, paper lanterns have become a popular decoration or lighting item for almost any occasion.
