The windshield wiper arm is not the most critical component in making the windshield wiper system work, but provides a crucial function. It connects the windshield wiper motors, contained underneath the car's hood, with the blades that keep the windshield clean.
All wiper arms fit onto a splined shaft. Some are held in place with a nut. To replace that type, just lift the protective cap, remove the nut and pull off the arm. The other type is held in place with a locking clip.
The windshield wiper arm is connected to the motor. When the motor is activated, the wiper arm starts moving back and forth. In doing so, it pulls the blade across the windshield.
