Cumin seeds have eight ridges with oil canals. They resemble caraway seeds, being oblong in shape, longitudinally ridged, and yellow-brown in colour, like other members of the family Apiaceae (Umbelliferae) such as caraway, parsley, and dill. Cumin is a good source of magnesium, iron, calcium and phosphorous. Also rich in Vitamin E, A, C, K and B6. Consuming about 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds can meet the daily requirement.
