The hood support rod hold up the hood of your vehicle. This allows you to access the engine compartment without holding the hood up by hand or with a prop rod.
Failed hood rod can be both dangerous and annoying as they could allow the hood to fall on your head.
There are two main reasons for hood rod to fail, that is dirt and heat. Under hood temps can be very high and that will affect the pressure inside the rod. Also, the rod is in the collapsed state that increases the pressure even further.
