Mapillai samba or "bride groom rice" is a native variety of rice, which is red in color and is grown mainly in tamil nadu. It is suitable for organic farming as it is hardy and demands little or no fertilizers or pesticides.

It is 160 days crop. Unfortunately, as with other native rice varieties, mapilla has disappeared from our farms and markets in samba, making way instead for highly processed, nutritionally depleted white rice. Very few passionate traditional farmers still grow such rice. This rice comes from tiruvannamalai in tamil nadu. This is a vegetarian product and is gluten free. It makes blood flow faster so that our body gets instant energy. Vitamin b1 present in rice aids in healing stomach and mouth ulcers.
