Damar incense resin from indigo herbs is a premium quality incense resin that is traditionally used to lift the spirits from sadness and melancholy. Dammar resin is delicate fragrance is light and uplifting; it elevates the user and brings a feeling of safety, clarity, serenity and peace. A solution of dammar in chloroform or xylene is used to preserve and mount thin biological sections for microscopic examination.
With oil of turpentine, dammar forms a fine varnish that dries clear, smooth, and hard; it is a widely used picture varnish. Made from the purified sap of trees in malaysia, damar resin is used to produce a harder and more durable encaustic paint film. Damar contains 62% resin, 23% dammarol acid and 2,5% of water. Dammar resin is specially used in varnishing due to its low molecular weight and viscosity and high refractive index, which makes the underlying colors high saturated.
