A mousepad is a flat surface on which to place and move a computer mouse. When opposed to using a mouse directly on a table, a mousepad improves usability by providing a surface for it to track movement correctly and without jitter. A mouse pad isn't legally required these days, but there are several apparent and significant advantages to using one, even if you're not spending a lot of money on a sophisticated "gaming" one.
