In 2019, the foundation of the University of Rostock marks the 600th anniversary. On this occasion, the eight authors of this volume are devoted to different objects, concepts and actors who are exemplary for the history of the subject in Rostock and for the fields of work represented there - French, Spanish and Italian literary studies, linguistics and foreign language didactics. Romance studies in Rostock follow a dialogical way of dealing with history: The four Romanists currently teaching in Rostock answered four contributions from foreign specialist representatives. The subject of the articles are precious unique pieces (an autograph by Christof Kolumbus) and old prints (the Bibliothèque des Dames Chrétiennes) from the special collection of the Rostock University Library, interviews with Rostock contemporary witnesses on foreign language teaching and for teacher training in the GDR the subject and the university shaped (the early modern scholar Olaus Magnus, early language master or the medieval philologist Karl Bartsch). These overlaps over very different stages in specialist history open up new perspectives on the traditional Romanistic lines at the University of Rostock.
