French Edition by Victor Hugo (Author)
Victor Hugo Contemplations is a collection of poems, written by Victor Hugo, published in 1856. It is made up of 158 poems gathered in six books. Most of these poems were written between 1841 and 1855, but the oldest poems of This collection date from 1830. Contemplations is a collection of memory, love, joy but also of death, mourning and even a certain mystical faith. The memory, above all, takes a preponderant place there, since Victor Hugo experiences the genre of versified autobiography. This collection is also a tribute to his daughter Léopoldine Hugo, who died drowned in the Seine in Villequier. The book is organized in two parts, respectively entitled and today, each comprising three chapters. In the past (1830 - 1843) i. Aurore: It is the book of youth evoking the memories of the poet's college, his first emotional emotions and his first literary struggles. II. The soul in bloom: it is the book of loves, made up of poems evoking the early days of his union with Juliette Drouet.iii. Struggles and dreams: it is the book of pity and the first step towards the consideration of the misery of the world. Today (1843 - 1855) IV. Pauca Meae: This is the Book of Mourning where the poet tries to establish a form of communication with his daughter despite death. En Marche: this is the book of energy found where the expatriate poet will seek new reasons to live in meditation. At the edge of the infinity: this is the book of certainties. There is a fantastic and supernatural atmosphere, crossing specters, angels and spirits which bring revelations to the poet. Anxiety still alternates with hope but it is ultimately hope that prevails. At first glance, the collection seems organized in chronological order. But Victor Hugo distorted the writing date of some of his poems. It must be deduced that the chosen order is more psychological than historical. Read More
