CAT6 cables are designed to support higher data transfer rates compared to their predecessors like CAT5e. They are capable of carrying data at speeds of up to 10 gigabits per second (Gbps) over short distances, typically up to 55 meters (180 feet).
CAT6 cables consist of four twisted pairs of copper wires. The twisting of the pairs reduces electromagnetic interference (EMI) and crosstalk, which helps maintain signal integrity and minimize data errors.
CAT6 cables are backward compatible with older Ethernet standards like CAT5 and CAT5e. You can use CAT6 cables in networks that use these older standards, but you won't achieve the full potential data rates of CAT6 in such cases.
