This idler pulley helps guide the belt as the engine is running. Over time the bearing inside this pulley can start to run dry which results in squeaks and other undesirable noises coming from the engine bay. It's best to replace the belts and pulley all at the same time as they wear together.
Includes encapsulated replacement idler pulley bolt, does not include pulley cap.
The drive belt idler pulley works in conjunction with the tensioner pulley/tensioner assembly to maintain tension on the belt as well as guide the belt. Idler pulleys are also used to achieve ideal belt routing around the engine drive accessories such as the power steering pump, water pump, A/C compressor, and alternator.
