The axle Boot is a ribbed, rubber flexible boot that keeps water and dirt out of the joint and the special grease inside the joint.
It covers the joint and keeps grease packed inside.
It’s a tiny but critical piece of a vital component in your drive train.
The purpose of the axle boot is to keep dirt, water, and road grime out and keep the grease in the joint while allowing the wheels to rotate, turn left/right and also travel up and down with your vehicle suspension.
The most common cause of axle joint failure is the deterioration and splitting or tearing of the rubber axle boot.
